Medieval half-timbered town with imperial palace.
Goslar has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992 and is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Germany. Over 1,500 half-timbered houses from six centuries characterize the townscape - every alley tells a story.
Imperial Palace
The Imperial Palace is the heart of Goslar and one of the largest Romanesque monuments in Germany. The emperors of the Holy Roman Empire resided here. The Imperial Hall with its monumental history paintings takes you back to the 11th century. From the terrace, you have a sweeping view over the old town.
Old Town
A stroll through Goslar's old town takes you past magnificent guildhall façades, the striking market square with its carillon and the historic pewter figurine museum. Winding alleyways, cozy cafés and small craft stores make the city tour an experience.
Rammelsberg
The Rammelsberg mine is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site - ore was mined here continuously for over 1,000 years. Today it is a fascinating museum with various guided tours: from the Roeder gallery (historic hydroelectric power system) to the mine train (ride into the mountain) and ore processing.
Opening hours Rammelsberg: April-October daily 9:00-18:00, November-March 9:00-17:00. Closed on December 24 and 31.
Upper Harz Water Management
The third UNESCO World Heritage Site in the region: the Upper Harz Water Management. An ingenious system of ditches, ponds and underground canals that supplied the mines with energy for over 800 years. Hiking trails lead along the historic moats.

Goslar can be perfectly combined with the Rammelsberg - both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and are only 2 km apart.
